Yukon - Yukon - Land: Much of the territory remains unspoiled wilderness, but the impact of people on the environment is apparent. Near the settlements reliance on wood for fuel has destroyed timber, and in remoter places forest fires have often gone uncontrolled. In addition, surface mining has scarred the landscape near Dawson, in the west-central part of the territory, and near Whitehorse. For years, glacial runoff was the major water source for Kluane Lake, flowing in by way of the Slims River. But in May , Kluane Lake levels dropped precipitously. Canada's Yukon Territory is roughly triangular in shape, and most of its western border is shared with Alaska along degrees west longitude. Most of its southern border is shared with the. "Southern Ocean" is an obsolete name for the Pacific Ocean or South Pacific, coined by Vasco Núñez de Balboa, the first European to discover it, who approached it from the north. The "South Seas" is a less archaic synonym. A British Act of Parliament established a prize for discovering a Northwest Passage to "the Western and Southern Ocean of America".

According to Environment Canada, a community near the glacier, Haines Junction, Yukon, reached C on July That was the hottest July 22 on record for the area. The following few days all. As well, several C14 ages obtained from southern Mackenzie Mountains indicate that the Laurentide ice was present close to y B.P. just south of Keele River latitude. This coincides with ages obtained for the drainage of glacial Lake Mackenzie in the same area ca. 9ka. Latitude and longitude make up the grid system that helps humans identify absolute, or exact, locations on the Earth’s surface. There is a relationship between latitude and temperature around the world, as temperatures are typically warmer approaching the Equator and cooler approaching the Poles.

A postmortem of the first known case of 'river piracy' in modern times outlines how a retreating glacier in the Yukon diverted water from one river to another, leading to many downstream effects.   The Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) refers to the most recent period in earth's history when the glaciers were at their thickest and the sea levels at their lowest, roughly betw–18, calendar years ago (cal bp). During the LGM, continent-wide ice sheets covered high-latitude Europe and North America, and sea levels were between – feet (– meters) lower than they are . The cougar (Puma concolor) is a large felid of the subfamily is native to the Americas. Its range spans from the Canadian Yukon to the southern Andes in South America, and is the widest of any large wild terrestrial mammal in the Western is an adaptable, generalist species, occurring in most American habitat types. Due to its wide range, it has many names including.   The team collected rocks from latitude 38 degrees south to 56 degrees south, for a total of samples. and the glacial buzzsaw is winning in the north.".

Glacial Periods in Earth’s History We are currently in the middle of a glacial period (although it’s less intense now than it years ago) but this is not the only period of glaciation in Earth’s history; there have been many in the distant past, as illustrated in Figure In general, however, Earth has been warm enough to be ice-free for much more of the time than it.
